Police remove seven from cruise ship after 'fight' on board

A P&O cruise ship was forced to return to Sydney on Sunday so that police could remove seven people reportedly involved in a fight on board.

The crew asked Marine Police to attend the Pacific Explorer on Sunday morning to remove the group "as a result of their behaviour on board overnight", a spokesman for P&O said.

"This is in line with our strict policy of zero tolerance of excessive behaviour that affects the safety, comfort and enjoyment of other guests."

Police confirmed they removed six men and one woman at Bradleys Head in Sydney Harbour on Sunday afternoon.

"Detectives from Marine Area Command will continue inquiries into the alleged fight once the group have been brought to shore," police said.

The spokesman for P&O said that "while these occurrences are rare" the company has "no hesitation in taking strong action where necessary that adheres to this policy".

The ship was on a three-night round trip from Sydney and has resumed its cruise, due to return to Sydney on Monday.

"The group removed today will no longer be welcome to travel with P&O Cruises or any of its associated brands," the spokesman said.

The company is assisting police with inquiries.
