Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has said the online giant has “listened to critics” as he announced a pay rise for all its minimum wage-earning British and American employees.
As Amazon battles to counter criticism about how it treats its staff packing products in large warehouses, Mr Bezos said that from November anyone working in London would receive an hourly rate of £10.50 an hour, up from £8.20 an hour. Workers outside of London will receive £9.50 an hour, up from £8 an hour. Amazon said the change would benefit more than 17,000 Amazon employees and more than 20,000 seasonal workers who will be hired over Christmas.
