FOUR Virgin Australia flights have been cancelled today due to poor visibility conditions.
Flights to and from Melbourne Airport were cancelled due to low-lying clouds and poor visibility, with some experiencing delays.
“Low cloud in the vicinity of Melbourne Airport this afternoon is affecting all airlines operating in and out of the airport,” a Virgin Australia spokesperson told news.com.au.
“We encourage guests travelling to or from Melbourne today to check our flight status page for the most up-to-date information.”
Air Traffic Control at Melbourne Airport have reduced the number of flights permitted to land per hour.
Flight VA748 scheduled to leave from Coolangatta Airport on the Gold Coast at 5pm and its return service, Flight VA735 have been cancelled.
Flight VA862 flying from Sydney to Melbourne at 4.30pm and its return service, Flight VA865, scheduled for departure at 4.45pm, were also cancelled.
A Qantas spokesperson told news.com.au two flights were cancelled due to the fog this morning, but there are currently no delays.
Customers have been urged to check the statuses of their flights.
Thick fog has blanketed Victoria this morning, with hazy conditions reported across Melbourne today, with the Gippsland region and the state’s south-west also affected.
