Hey Preston! Look who's back with a new fund

Former Airline Funds Management stockpicker and Goldman Sachs sales trader Preston Hamersley has popped back up in financial markets.

Hamersley has re-emerged with a new Australian equities long/short fund called Indian Pacific Funds Management, and is believed to have already attracted support from some of Sydney and Melbourne's rockstar fund managers.

Hamersley's pitch is bottom-up stockpicking and a wholesale (not institutional) client base, with a focus on absolute returns. He has also told potential investors he will have plenty of skin in the game and tip his own liquid assets into the fund.

The stockpicker is expected to run the fund from his home state of Western Australia, which is also part of the pitch. He reckons being away from the funds management crowd could help him see things more clearly.

It's understood the new fund started investing this month, which will have ensured an interesting first few weeks.

Hamersley spent five years at John Sevior's Airlie Funds Management before leaving late last year. He joined Airlie from Goldman Sachs, where he was on the institutional equities desk for eight years.
