KFC doles out bags of chicken for £1 from factory as chicken crisis continues

CLOSED: Hundreds of branches of KFC remain closed due to the chicken crisis

The factory in Sleaford, Lincs, had to sell the chicken after an order of almost 20,000 pieces was returned amid chaos that saw 550 outlets closed across the UK.

Nine pieces were flogged for £1, compared to the £7.65 they cost once the Colonel’s secret spices have been applied.

Hundreds of branches have been left with no chicken after an embarrassing failure with the fast food giant's new delivery firm DHL.

A failure in its computer system meant deliveries out of its vast hub and warehouse in Rugby, Warks, went into meltdown.

Restaurants ran out of chicken and were forced to shut, making the chain a laughing stock on social media.

Some restaurants have re-opened but still with limited menus. It has been rumoured branches of the fast food shop could stay shut for another month as the crisis continues.

After being bombarded with complaints, the fast food giant posted a “sorry” advert last week.

The apology features an empty bargain bucket with the letters “FCK” on it.

It seems to have worked a treat on Twitter with fans calling it “a masterclass in PR crisis management”, adding “a bit of humour goes a long way”.
